Wii Announces Release Of Motion Plus Controllers
Filed under: gaming; No CommentsIn an move designed to increase the overall performance and enjoyment factor of its Nintendo Wii console, Nintendo is readying to launch a new addition to its console’s popular motion sensing controllers. We now know that the add ons will be released on June 8th and will be available for just under twenty dollars at $19.99. The new remote accessories will also come bundled with the soon to be released Wii Sports Resort, which should be available in late July for $49.99.
What exactly do the new remote accessories do? Well, they simply attache to the bottom of current Nintendo Wii controllers, and add extra sensors which will improve both the sensitivity and accuracy of the Wii controllers. Many soon to be released games have announced that they will support the new accessories, so they might be worth the cost for hard core Wii players.

Rock Band Franchise Reaches One Billion Sales
Filed under: gaming; No CommentsSince its unveiling to the public in 2007, the Rock Band gaming franchise has become a house hold name, and a main stream success. It’s popularity has continued to grow, as more and more folks tap into their childhood dreams of rock stardom. In fact, the Rock Band simulation series has now reached a tremendous milestone: one billion dollars in sales. These stats are according to gaming company Electronic Arts, who recently sent out a press release with the information.
The monetization behind the Rock Band series is really very clever, as they gain revenue not only from the sales of the games themselves, but also from the forty million downloadable tracks connected to the games. There’s no end in sight for Rock Band, either, as they are set to release a new edition of the popular series, which will feature music from The Beatles!

Resident Evil Five Is On Fire!
Filed under: gaming; No CommentsHoly Moly, are video games really recession proof? It sure seems that way, as Capcom came out today and released figures that show they heav shipped over four million copies of their new Resident Evil title. Amazingly, said title was just released to the public less than a week ago! It’s clearly the biggest release for any of the Resident Evil series, and shows that interest in the series is still growing in epic proportions.
So far, the series as a whole has sold over forty million copies globally, which is obviously a huge amount, and it certainly looks though that number will grow much larger. Capcom also mentioned that they will continue to market the games through unique channels such as movies and mobile phone applications.

Nintendo DS Sales Top 100M
Filed under: gaming; No CommentsWorldwide sales of the Nintendo DS hand-held has passed one hundred million in only four years and three months! This is extraordinary as it is a number the DS has achieved faster than any video game console ever. The DS was originally released in November of 2004 (seems like only yesterday, doesn’t it?)
The figures stated take in to account sales for both the original DS, the amended DS lite, as well as the Nintendo DSi, which is currently only available in Japan, with an overseas release anticipated within the next few months.
The sales figures for the DS, and more so, the phenomenal rate at which it is selling, is even more impressive when you take in to account that it took the GameBoy over eleven years to sell the number of units in which the DS has reached in under five years.

Sony, Nintendo and Nokia Sued
Filed under: gaming, technology; No CommentsA lawsuit against Ninetendo, Nokia, and Sony is claiming patent infringement involving wireless networks. The patent is held by the company Wall Wireless LLC for a “Method and Apparatus for Creating and Distributing real-Time Interactive Media Content Through Wireless Communication Networks and the Internet”. The Texas-based company is saying that the Sony PSP, Nintendo DS, and Nokia N81, N82, N93, and N95 infringe on its patent, which was given in 2003.
Wall Wireless evidently notified the 3 companies of the patent last October asking them to license rights and is now looking to receive damages, trial costs, and royalties. It is interesting that the complaint wasn’t filed until four years after the PSP and DS were released and at least 2 years after the Nokia phones were publicly available. The delayed lawsuit, combined with the vagueness of the patent, casts a shadow on the success of the lawsuit.

Amazon To Take Video Game Trade Ins
Filed under: gaming; No CommentsGood news for those of you who are gamers (or maybe have kids/teenagers who play a lot of video games). Amazon.com, is now allowing its customers to save some money by trading in their already played video games for a credit toward a new Amazon purchase (which doesn’t even have to be spent on gaming). The new feature from Amazon is easy to use, as the user simply needs to locate their used game’s title on the new trade-in website, print out the corresponding label from that site (which provides free shipping), and receive a predetermined amount (based on title) credited to their account once Amazon receives the game.
Now, keep in mind, that unlike some vendors Amazon expects games to be in good condition, and arrive with the original case and manual. The amount you’ll receive for each trade in seems to be on par with other similar services, such as GameSpot. Also, to give the new trade in program a bit of a kick start, Amazon is providing ten percent off of a gaming related purchase to those who make a trade in before March nineteenth. Sounds like a good deal to me!
If you are a gamer and wish to win cash for playing, take a look at this video game battles site.
