It sounds like something straight out of the Jetson’s, and its certainly not an event I would have expected to hear of in my lifetime, but nonetheless the “flying car” has taken its first flight.

Officially called “Transition”, and mostly referred to as a roadable aircraft, the device produced and owned by Terrafugia Inc has enjoyed a successful maiden voyage of thirty seven seconds at the New York airport, Plattsburgh International. While the flight time may seem short, the main goal of the event was to fully test the Transition’s landing capabilities. Everything appeared to go off without a hitch.

The Transition has at least two years of testing to go before going on sale, but Terrafugia Inc says they already have deposits for forty of the vehicles, which are expected to go for about $194,000. Rules and regulations on the vehicles should they become road ready should be interesting.

The folks at Google today brought out a new beta edition of their Chrome web browser and like other comparable web browser producers, they’re certainly enjoying highlighting the incredible speed of their newest version. In fact, a representative from Google has claimed that the company’s newest beta version of Chrome is almost twice as fast as the previous version. If that’s true, I may just have to forsake my beloved FireFox and stick with Chrome full time!

The new beta version of Chrome isn’t just faster, it also includes new features such as draggable (sure, it’s a word!) tabs, auto fill technology, and even a full page zoom option.

Unfortunately for all you Mac fanatics out there, currently Google Chrome is still only compatible with Windows environments.

According to data from NDP research, the United States retail sales of Mac branded computers dropped a concerning sixteen percent in Feb, which is a surprising number considering that Windows based units saw a twenty two percent rise in the same month. The boost in Windows sales is likely due to the growing popularity of small “netbook” computers.

When just the laptop numbers are looked at, Mac experiences a seven percent drop, while Windows sees an impressive sales gain o thirty six percent. Even without the consideration of netbook laptops, Windows based laptops still would have experienced a sixteen percent increase in sales over the previous month.

The real question, I suppose, is: Is this just a blip on the radar for Mac? It might very well be, as many expect Mac sales to rise in March, as the company has recently released a revamped lineup of computers. However, others believe that the growing popularity of netbooks could continue to harm Mac, less they come out with their own netbook offering. I guess we’ll find out which one is true in the coming months.

Presenting information through an online format can save a lot of money, as it can eliminate many face to face meetings, thus saving on flights, hotels and wages. One excellent tool for presenting information online is the VGA2WEB Lite, which can allow your business to easily broadcast video presentations to your associates world wide., allowing you to reach business partners and even customers that might otherwise be out of reach. The VGA2WEB Lite is a very neat tool, as it can be used by anyone and it does not even need any special software, all that’s needed is to Share VGA signal online, and you’re up and running. Easy, right? The VGA2WEB Lite is also light weight and easily transportable, so you can take it with you whenever necessary.

Also the VGA2WEB is a very economically sound choice (and which business or individual isn’t looking to save as much money as possible these days?), as there are no licensing fees associated with it, which, in my opinion, makes it a smarter choice than other options such as Adobe Acrobat Connect, Live Meeting and WebEx. I would encourage those interested to visit the epiphan.com website for more information, and also, check out the diagram below as it gives a good example of how seamlessly the VGA2WEB Lite connects.

Tech giant Hewlett-Packard is now distributing notebook computer batteries that HP says will not drop off in battery capacity throughout the lifespan of the notebook computer, an average of three years. Also, HP states that the new batteries will recharge a great deal quicker than conventional batteries.

The new batteries, called “The Enviro series” is produced by Boston Power, which markets “Sonata” batteries. Sonata batteries are considered more echo and economical friendly than conventional batteries, as Sonatas do not lose capacity during their first three years, and so do not need to be replaced. To prove such, the company even offers a three year guarantee on their batteries. Believe it or not, Boston Power says the batteries are recharged to approximately eighty percent of their full capacity in only half an hour.

Today Google launched a new service, which is similar to that offered by the eBay owned Skype, called Google Voice. Some of you may remember that Google purchased a phone company in 2007, by the name of Grand Central Communications. Well, they are now using the technology of said phone company in Google Voice, which will allow users to enjoy cheap calls made through the internet.

Google perhaps even has a leg up on rival services, such as Skype, because they offer users an assigned telephone number in which they can receive calls to anywhere, anytime. Skype does not offer such a number.

Unfortunately, the new service is only available within the US at this time, and only to those customers of the Grand Central Telephone Company. So, for now, I’ll be sticking with Skype, but I have to say that I am eager to try out this new Google offering.

A New York attorney for Google is saying that a fashion model is not justified in attempting to reveal the identity of an anonymous blogger who called her offensive names. The blogger’s attorney, Anne Salisbury, agreed that the comments about Liskula Cohen may be revolting. However, she said the blogger’s beliefs are protected by free speech laws. Cohen stated the remarks about her hygiene and sexual habits were defamatory and malicious. Salisbury holds that no “reasonable” person would interpret them as fact. Cohen’s lawyer, Steven Wagner, stated the model, has been hurt professionally. The posts were on Blogger.com, which is owned by Google. Attorney Joshua Plaut said Google will abide by the court decision. Manhattan judge Joan Madden had reserved the decision at this point.
