Technology To Secure Your Home
Filed under: technology; No CommentsIf you’ve ever had your home broken into, or know somebody that has, you likely understand the loss of peace of mind that occurs after such an incident. In fact, my Uncle experienced a home invasion several months back, and now experiences sleep difficulties, and even trouble just relaxing on his couch. He is currently looking into alarm services, and I believe that having an home alarm installed will help him regain his peace of mind considerably.
One company that offers an excellent, high tech Wireless Security System is Eagle Protection. They provide invaluable services such as live monitoring, and instant alert response. This means that you will have instant access to a security representative in the event of attempted home invasion. Also, such systems are known to often cause would be thieves to flee, as they realize their is an extremely high chance of them being caught. The ADT system also notifies the police immediately should your alarm be triggered, so you can feel safe and have peace of mind in your home. It’s truly a top of of the line security system, which is surprisingly easy to use, even for those of us who are less than tech savvy.
If you’re interested in better securing your home, and in turn protecting your loved ones against a home invasion, you can read more about the ADT services provided by Eagle Protection at EagleProtection.com.

New iPod Shuffle Unveiled
Filed under: technology; No CommentsAmid all the speculation about a possible Apple Netbook release, the company has surprised us all by instead unveiling a new iPod Shuffle. Believe it or not, the new offering is actually a great deal smaller than the last (who would have thought that was possible?), coming it at under just two inches in length. The new model is also approximately twice as slim as the previous version.
In order to accommodate the new smaller size of the Shuffle, Apple has removed some of the buttons from the device, and incorporated them into the headphones. The new Shuffle also has voice capability, where it can speak the name and artist of a song to the user, or pronounce an entire play list, in order. Personally, I’m not sure how useful such a feature will be, and it sounds like more of a novelty capability to me rather than a useful addition.
And the price of the new shuffle? At a meager 79 dollars, the iPod Shuffle is still a great deal. Especially considering this particular shuffle model can hold up to 4 gigs of music, which is approximately 1000 songs. Very nice.

Additional Beatles Game Info Revealed
Filed under: software, technology; No CommentsMTV Games and Harmonix have released additional information pertaining to the forthcoming Beatles game, including the price and date of availability. The game, The Beatles: Rock Band, will become available in North America and Europe on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Wii on September 9. The game players will use the drum, guitar, and microphone found in the first 2 Rock Band games, it will also include additional devices used by the band members. It’s not known yet what these devices will be.
The game will also have the participation from Beatles band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison and producer Giles Martin, the son of Beatles producer George Martin. Although the game will maintain the Rock Band brand affiliated with its title, Harmonix insists that the game will be a standalone title. This plausibly means that a player will not be able to play Aerosmith on The Beatles: Rock Band. The game on its own will cost $60 and the guitar will cost $100, while the entire package will sell for $250.

UK Users Blocked from YouTube Music Videos
Filed under: technology; No CommentsYouTube is stopping thousands of music videos for British users after being unable to achieve an agreement on a new licensing deal with the Performing Rights Society (PRS), which is responsible for collecting royalties for songwriters. The move has maddened the PRS, which says YouTube is “punishing British consumers and the songwriters whose interests we protect and represent.” Patrick Walker, the YouTube director of video partnerships, stated the action was “regrettable” but added the PRS is seeking much higher fees, which were “prohibitive.” YouTube pays a licence to the PRS, which permits the website to stream music videos from 3 major music labels and several independent labels.

Sony, Nintendo and Nokia Sued
Filed under: gaming, technology; No CommentsA lawsuit against Ninetendo, Nokia, and Sony is claiming patent infringement involving wireless networks. The patent is held by the company Wall Wireless LLC for a “Method and Apparatus for Creating and Distributing real-Time Interactive Media Content Through Wireless Communication Networks and the Internet”. The Texas-based company is saying that the Sony PSP, Nintendo DS, and Nokia N81, N82, N93, and N95 infringe on its patent, which was given in 2003.
Wall Wireless evidently notified the 3 companies of the patent last October asking them to license rights and is now looking to receive damages, trial costs, and royalties. It is interesting that the complaint wasn’t filed until four years after the PSP and DS were released and at least 2 years after the Nokia phones were publicly available. The delayed lawsuit, combined with the vagueness of the patent, casts a shadow on the success of the lawsuit.

Satellite Collision a Galactic Plot?
Filed under: technology; No CommentsThe recent satellite collision that took place 500 miles above the Earth is an American plot, according to a Russian General. Major General (Ret.) Leonid Shershnev, acted as the former chief of Russia’s military space intelligence, told the Kremlin-run RIA Novosti press agency that the collision may have actually been a test of an American space-weapon technology. Formally, a dead Russian satellite struck an American telecommunications bird, one of 66 belonging to the Iridium company which sends signals to and from satellite phones on Earth.
Shershnev thinks the US is still running a NASA-Pentagon project for monitoring orbital spacecrafts by fully-automated satellites equipped with robotic devices. According to RIA Novosti’s paraphrase of the general’s words, the U.S. may now be “capable of manipulating ‘hostile satellites,’ including their destruction, with a single command from a ground control center.”

IE To Become Optional In Windows 7
Filed under: software, technology; No CommentsToday Microsoft confirmed the determinations of a couple of bloggers who observed that beginning with the major trial release of Windows seven, Internet Explorer, for the first time, is able to be removed.
Microsoft officials made this public by mentioning it on the Engineering Windows seven blog. Furthermore, they went on to detail that other Windows programs will also be able to be removed from Windows Seven, as well. Among these programs are: Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, Windows Search, Windows DVD Maker, Windows Gadget Platform, and more.
For those of you (likely FireFox users), who are ready to remove IE from your Windows 7 Beta platform, it is unlikely that the version you’re using will allow for this yet. The function is set to come in the next Windows Seven Test program, which should be due in a month or so. However, users that do have access to Windows Seven Test Build 7048 (a minority, for sure), can currently remove IE if they wish.
