Flying Car Takes First Flight
Filed under: technology; It sounds like something straight out of the Jetson’s, and its certainly not an event I would have expected to hear of in my lifetime, but nonetheless the “flying car” has taken its first flight.
Officially called “Transition”, and mostly referred to as a roadable aircraft, the device produced and owned by Terrafugia Inc has enjoyed a successful maiden voyage of thirty seven seconds at the New York airport, Plattsburgh International. While the flight time may seem short, the main goal of the event was to fully test the Transition’s landing capabilities. Everything appeared to go off without a hitch.
The Transition has at least two years of testing to go before going on sale, but Terrafugia Inc says they already have deposits for forty of the vehicles, which are expected to go for about $194,000. Rules and regulations on the vehicles should they become road ready should be interesting.
