    More and More Americans Ditch Their Landlines

    Filed under: mobile;

    Some new statistics released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that more and more Americans are ditching their landlines in favor of becoming cell phone only phone users. The data released surmises that approximately 14.7 percent of American families use only wireless phones, and do not have land line service.

    In some states, such as Oklahoma and Utah, its estimated that over 25 percent of households have gone wireless only. However, other states, such as Delaware are still very land line reliant, having under five percent of the population as cell phone only users.

    While Americans have been trending more and more toward becoming cell phone only households for the last few years, I would imagine the growing numbers are also due to the current economic downturn, as many folks make the choice between having both a cell phone and a land line, or opting to switch to only one of those options. Certainly, most people are deciding that the cellphone is the one to keep.
