Sony, Nintendo and Nokia Sued
Filed under: gaming, technology;A lawsuit against Ninetendo, Nokia, and Sony is claiming patent infringement involving wireless networks. The patent is held by the company Wall Wireless LLC for a “Method and Apparatus for Creating and Distributing real-Time Interactive Media Content Through Wireless Communication Networks and the Internet”. The Texas-based company is saying that the Sony PSP, Nintendo DS, and Nokia N81, N82, N93, and N95 infringe on its patent, which was given in 2003.
Wall Wireless evidently notified the 3 companies of the patent last October asking them to license rights and is now looking to receive damages, trial costs, and royalties. It is interesting that the complaint wasn’t filed until four years after the PSP and DS were released and at least 2 years after the Nokia phones were publicly available. The delayed lawsuit, combined with the vagueness of the patent, casts a shadow on the success of the lawsuit.
